Forgiving Who I Was In Survival Mode

A meditative self-portraiture workshop //

Service Description

Sunday, April 18th 4pm PST Around this time 6 years ago, it felt like my whole world was crumbling. My marriage was falling apart, I was living out of my car, and living off of protein bars and bananas from the 99 cent store. It sounds crazy, but at the time, it was the closest thing I had to “home”. While I’ve spent the last few years rebuilding a new life, a new atmosphere for myself, it’s incredible how trauma can linger in our minds, hearts and skin suits. The voices in our head begin to whisper, “Well, I came from trauma. I guess that’s what I deserve.” The capitalist and patriarchal systems we live in were built to make us think that we deserve lack because of the chaos we’ve endured. It takes so much work to re-wire and re-train our beautiful minds to remember that we are more than our circumstances. Deeper than our struggles. Capable of self-forgiveness, healing and growth. During our 90 minutes together on Zoom, we will explore what it looks like to step out of the lack mentality. To begin clinging to the truth that Alex Elle so beautifully states: “We are worthy of ease.” You know how oatmeal can be so delicious when it’s fresh, fluffy, buttery and sweet? But if you let it sit on the counter for too long, she turns into straight up cement. Trauma has a way of doing that — of taking what was once so precious, tender and beautiful and sticking like glue to what once felt safe. Whole. Good. We will unpack the ways that the most difficult times, circumstances and experiences can start to cling too closely to our identities. Through group conversation, exercises and self-portrait prompts + meditations, we will work together toward healing and forgiving who we were in survival mode. This time together is about expansion, evolution, letting go. Perhaps there are some coping mechanisms that protected you as a child who didn’t feel safe. But do those same strategies, habits and routines serve and honor the adult you are now? I will be capping this workshop at 20 to keep it cozy + intimate — so that every voice has a chance to be heard. Early bird registration is officially open now through Friday before shifting to $35.
